Photo Courtesy of Omega Delta Phi The Pi Chapter of Omega Delta Phi, International Fraternity Inc. has been at the University of Houston since February 19, 1997. The brotherhood feels that recruiting and accepting only quality men as brothers is a big part of why their fraternity has had success across the nation and abroad. The fraternity currently has 48 brothers who are involved in ODPhi and these guys are really involved with UH and the surrounding community. The men of Omega Delta Phi participate in after school tutoring at the Magnolia area's Ripley House and Barrio Center. They have been involved in Habitat for Humanity, Austin High School Shoe Drives and Bolivar Peninsula Beach Cleanups. One of Pi Chapter's biggest service projects took place on Thanksgiving Day at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The brothers helped to feed thousands of Houstonians as well as clothe them. Feeding the needy at the convention center wasn't all the brothers did. This year ODPhi has started a new tradition for Thanksgiving. Brothers from the Pi Chapter collected donations and then put together Thanksgiving dinner baskets which the brothers personally delivered to needy families throughout the Houston area. It is through there community service efforts that ODPhi has gained a reputation of not being a "check writing" service based fraternity. Pi Chapter loves helping out the community, but they also like to have a little extra fun. ODPhi participated in the Delta Zeta Gong Show and received first place overall and first place in the banner contest and most spirited. The guys also held their first banquet and put on such events as ODPhi2K, The ODPhi Project, ODPhiology II and Latin Knight. It was also ODPhi's first time to participate in Frontier Fiesta and they look forward to participating next year. It's been a great year for ODPhi and the brothers aren't dreaming about the possibilities of next year, because if this year is any indication, next year is sure to be even better. • by Linda Canales PI PROUD The brothers of Omega Delta Phi take time out from their annual Scarlet and Silver Bowl on New Year's to pose for a group picture.
