Courtesy of Delta Zeta Since its founding in 1902, on the campus of Miami University, Delta Zeta has always been a unique and individualistic sorority. The sorority was founded at a time when women were not encouraged to attend college and therefore faced a lot of unnecessary pressure. When Delta Zeta began at Miami University nobody knew how successful it would be, but through the years many local chapters became Delta Zeta chapters. Currently, Delta Zeta is the largest sorority in the world. In Delta Zeta the sisters are encouraged to become involved in campus and community activities. Delta Zeta is proud of its sisters who are active in honor and business fraternities and Homecoming. The DZ sisters are also commended for their participation in UH Ambassadors, Cougar Dolls, Cheerleaders, Student Program Board and Student Association. Additionaly, as tribute to their committment to their goals in academic achievement, Delta Zetas have won several national and scholarship awards. Yet, Delta not Zeta's involvement does end after graduation. DZ has a strong alumnae group which is directly involved with the chapter through "Alum Chums," scholarship dinner. It is through the quality and strength of the sisterhood that Delta Zeta has become a strong national sorority with more than 150 chapters nationwide. Delta Zeta hosts an annual gong show benefiting its local philanthropy, The Houston School For Deaf Children. Gong Show, a rendition of the television hit, features both sororities and fraternities that put on a variety of skits, which are then judged by celebrities who "gong" the skit if they do not like it. Thousands of dollars are raised every year. Delta Zeta's annual Rose Ball formal provides a time for members to join together and appreciate the fun and reward of sisterhood. Delta Zeta's hands on involvement with the campus exemplifies its willingness to promote and improve the school. • by Jennifer Herrington SINGING AT FIESTA Social events provide Delta Zeta girls with opportunities to make life-long friends.
