From internship opportunities to leadership possibilities, PRSSA has been giving PR, advertising, marketing and journalism students direction towards their career path for over 10 years. In 1999, PRSSA joined forces with the Alzheimer's Association to increase awareness and participate in their annual Memory Walk. "This type of involvement gives students hands-on experience in PR work," Haagenson said. "Every major profession has a ladder of success, PRSSA is your direct link to that ladder." The National Conference, held every year in a different city, brings all of the chapters across the nation together to discuss emerging topics in PR. This is a big deal for them, because it's their chance to get out there and network. International firms scout these conferences for future employees. We always come back knowing twice as much about the real world of PR. Traveling with a group brings it closer together. Students make decisions based on the best for the whole, not the individual. Regional conferences as well as leadership conferences give members a chance to sharpen their skills and meet future practitioners. A mentoring program places student members with professional members of the parent organization, Public Relations Student Society. These relationships can continue even after the student graduates and often times lead to the first job out of school. The goal of Public Relations is to link ideas and people, in PRSSA we enjoy using our creativity while • by Andrew Sandoval getting a head start in our MY BUDDY Jennifer Storenski and Charlotte Chung of PRSSA take time to pose while on a trip to California.
