Photo hy Pete Medrano Building for the future of the paper was just one of the many goals The Daily Cougar Editor in Chief Ed De La Garza set out for the paper to achieve this year. Pointing to increased coverage of campus events and detailed sporting events, De La Garza believes the paper is more visually appealing, which has led to increased readership. He also believes the paper is more reader interactive. "We try to encourage more interaction through letters to the editor and feature articles such as 15-questions," De La Garza said. De La Garza also believes the paper has become stronger because of the increased number of writers on staff with high maturity levels. For example, many news writers are in or have been in News 2 classes, where they learn the skills and responsibilities of being a beat writer. The increased number of writers is also due to the friendships and networking that occurs between staff members. Entertainment Editor Jake McKim has made many lifelong friends through the Cougar. "I personally enjoy the camaraderie and friendship that one develops at the Cougar," he said. In addition to making friends, staff members also reap the rewards of seeing the final product and a job well done. "It's a rewarding feeling to see how it all comes together," McKim said. Brandon Franks, online assistant, said he enjoys the added responsibility he feels to the public. "When people depend on me, it makes me feel really good," Franks said. "Besides the free games, its a sense of responsibility and feeling like I'm doing my part for my school." Through increased coverage and staff members, The Daily Cougar has strived to be a stronger and more appealing paper. With increased readership and participation, the paper has reached and maintained many of its original goals. • by Micbelle Norton MERRY CHRISTMAS Daily Cougar staff members celebrate "A Very Special Cougar Christmas Party (Bottom row, from left): Andrew Sandoval, Gloria Campos, Jesse Lauritz, Jason Caesar Consolacion, Jake McKim, Josh Gajewski; (Second row): Dana Lomax, Sakinah Shah, Erica Canales, Chris Stelmak, Keenan Singleton, Brandon Moeller, Cynthia Bridges; (Standing): Kristen Price, Kryshon Segal, Sobana Rajapol, Che Whorton, Reeda Hadley, Ed De La Garza, Ben Coons, Christine McCreary.
