Transcript Student Video Network gives students more opportunities to experience a career in TV production MEET THE CREW SVN members gather together before a shoot to discuss ideas. Photo hy Danny Nguyen There's only so much that RTV students can learn in the production classes at the University of Houston. Not to worry, the Student Video Network comes to the rescue. The Student Video Network is a student-run television network that boradcast right on the UH campus. For many beginning television students there's not always an opportunity for them to get esperience with a television network. SVN helps with that problem because it is an organization that broadcasting students can gain a little extra experience in the television field. SVN does not just for television students. Non-RTV majors do join SVN because they have ideas to contribute or it has become a hobby. Students can watch the Student Video Network on campus via a closed circuit system. There are two live broadcasts in which the SVN crew must keep on their toes since there is no room for mistakes. There is also a taped show so that the SVN crew gets a break from the live shows. The two live shows are Sports Jock and Segun Live. Sports Jock is, of course, about sports. Segun Live is a show in which people can call in and ask whatever is on their minds. The topics are never truly set and anything is possible. SVN not only airs their own material, but they movies as well. These movies vary and the Student Video Network takes request from students. It's very convienent for students who don't want to leave the comfort of their room to rent a movie or pay a load of money to go to a theater. In between the shows and movies, there are also movie previews. And since it's part of the Student Program Board it's a television network that the students of the University of Houston can really go for. All that's needed to get SVN is to be on the University of Houston campus, with the exception of Cambridge Oaks and turn the television set to channel six. • by Linda Canales SVN President Chris Larson edits a movie his team is working on for a project.
