Students who believe that they have the power to make the world a better place can be found volunteering their time with MVP. Students can choose a service project that they feel is of importance to them. One of MVP's events this year was the Work for a Change fair which is held annually. The fair allowed UH students to see what volunteer and career opportunities were available to them. The Career Planning and Placement Service also helps to sponsor the Work for a Change fair. In October, MVP held a career fair that opened doors for many students. A variety of volunteer agencies were on hand to inform students of possible ways they can get involved with community service. Many students took the time to sign up with a few of the agencies with the hope of getting involved with the community. Kid Care Inc., Partners 5 West and Best Buddies were just a few of the agencies that were in attendance. Of all the events that MVP put together, the Oxfam Hunger Banquet was probably the most memorable. The banquet was held in honor of the National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Month. Guests of the banquet drew slips of colored paper to determine what they were served. Those who drew red slips were given a multiple course meal. Those who drew a green slip were given a small meal with some punch to drink. The last group drew purple slips and were given only rice and water to eat and drink. They were also made to sit on the floor as they ate. The purpose of the banquet was to make people aware of hunger in the world and the different social classes which were represented by each group.
