Some of the organizations that belong to ISO are CEO, the Chinese Student Association and the Hispanic Student Association. "One of our goals is to promote cultural awareness," said Sedghi. ISO consists of 20 cultural and religious groups. During the cultural night, members of ISO conduct ethnic dances, lectures, typical arts and crafts displays and poetry readings. ISO's biggest event is the food fair. Members of ISO cook the food dressed in their traditional costumes, and also make decorations for their tables presentation. As an incentive to the members, ISO gives trophies to the best performance and table. Members of ISO participate in a Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament and comedy show competitions. During The Unity Day, ISO INDIVIDUAL STYLE Students showed their style with fashions from their native country. "I enjoy it when there is a good turn out, and people stay for the complete program," Sedghi said. The Ahmadiyan Muslim Student Association is one of the most active group of ISO. They have organized The Cultural Night the past three times Sedghi said. During this event, this organization also talked extensively about their religion and traditions. "We keep track of who did what and at the end of the year they get rewarded," Sedghi said. "All you have to do is show up to all the events even if you are not participating." Organizations that belong to ISO can get funding from The Council of Ethnic Organizations. "If they request for funding, it is almost guaranteed that they can get it as long as it is for a cultural program at U.H," Sedghi said. • hy Andrew Sandoval Photo hy Will Smith inTERriATionAL studeitts ©RGAnizATion • iis DON'T BE SHY Students demonstrate how to use a hookah to smoke tobacco.
