Courtesy of Student Foundati FOUNDATION Bringing together students and organizations ror the campus and surrounding communities Courtesy of Student Foundati The University of Houston Student Foundation was created in 1990 by the leadership of 30 presidents from various campus organizations together with the UH Office of Development and the Houston Alumni Organization. The Student Foundation was comprised of outgoing and well-spoken students to represent the student body at official university events. UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON SERVICE-TRADITION-LEADERS HIP Its creation was part of a larger public relations campaign for the university. Since its creation, the Student Foundation has maintained frequent communication with the Houston Alumni Organization and the administration of the University at large. It has also branched out from its traditional role of holding events to becoming more active in campus organizations through organizing and co-sponsoring fund-raisers, promotions and spirited programs. Some of the Student Foundation's annual events include the Cougar Challenge, Homecoming weekend, The Big Switch, Trash Your T-shirt Day, Frontier Fiesta and Cougar Craze, held welcome weekend for incoming students. "Homecoming is one of my favorite events," Student Foundation President Stephanie Coker said. "We won the Golf Cart Parade this year." Members of the Student Foundation are always searching for students who have demonstrated a commitment to the university. These students should also be able to make a commitment to participate actively in Student Foundation. Former members of the Student Foundation have gone on to become active alumni in the Young Alumni League. Many presidents of the Young Alumni League were also former members of the Student Foundation. The organization has helped to instill a pride within students for their campus and its surrounding community. RED AND WHITE Students at Trash Your T-shirt Day show off their collection.
