It is a student-run organization designed to bring diverse, quality entertainment to the students of UH. SPB's primary purpose is to present events and activities that stimulate thought, provide entertainment and bring a sense of community to the campus. SPB has eight original committees with two new committees that specialize in different areas of campus. The programming committees are cinema, concerts, homecoming, sound and lighting, speaker's forum, special events, Student Video Network, and visual and performing arts. The two new committees are marketing and sports and recreation. According to SPB, the Student Video Network is the most popular committee of SPB, especially among communication majors. SPB sponsored many popular events this year. For example, the concert committee produced a concert at the Cullen Performance Hall with Digital Underground who sang its popular song "Humpty Dance." The local Houston rock band Simpleton performed as Digital Undergrounds' opening act. As part of the concert Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity put on a step show. This event also featured the appearance of two very funny comedians: Ralph May and John Wessling. In addition, showings of Superstar and Three Kings, starring George Clooney and Ice Cube were also held. The committee for Homecoming produced a homecoming week extravaganza titled "Back in Time From '99." This event included the introduction of the Homecoming Court and of various campus organizations and fraternities and sororities. It seems that SPB has once again had another exciting and eventful year at the University of Houston. •WK iy Kevin Harris II. GETTIN JIGGY Student dance with Digiital Underground for tickets.
