It's not unusual to walk over to the UC Satellite for lunch or to meet friends and hear music growing louder and louder as you approach. When you finally reach your destination, low and behold there's a live band cranking out the tunes just for students to enjoy. The bands are all local from around Houston and they come to UH to perform at the request oftheSPB. It's a relationship that works, because the SPB Sina- luUnmc Local band, Faceplant performs fH^enjoyment of students having lunch at the UC Satellite. Some of the bands that perform have a grunge take to their music, and some students seem to enjoy the entertainment. Of course, not everyone can be satisfied and so there are also plenty "^teeiinyc^vutnpty (~^lump mas an inieiesUno' experience and one V uwll neuci Henri Chen of students who are disappointed or who would prefer a different kind of sound. "It's not always what you want to hear, but it's nice that they come out here to perform," Patrick Gonzales, a jun- n't, the concerts went on. Local bands such as Faceplant, Gonehlind and the Westhury Squares all performed during lunch time at the UC Satellite. Sometimes what's even more interesting is the way the bands try to promote themselves. When Faceplant performed they had one member flash a hand made sign with the groups name on it. They even sell CDs of their music to anyone who likes their sounds. It's not a common way for students to spend lunch, but it works. • by Linda Canales sPRinG music festival • 57
