You never know what you're going to get." Well, that phrase rings somewhat true for University of Houston students and the weather around Houston. The weather for UH students is like that box of chocolates. You just don't know. "I hate the weather," biology freshman Piet Lewis said. "It does not get cold enough. It's too humid when its hot." Looking at the fall and winter seasons of 1999, it seemed like fall didn't arrive until November and winter surprised students for about two days. Nothing was more of a surprise than walking into a building while c€kittedtO' the* bone* Theater major, Kan Heimbaugh, attempts to keep warm outside the Communications Building. Photo by Pin Lim the weather was nice and sunny to be greeted by thunder, lightening and heavy rain an hour later. Unprepared students would run to their next class with copies of The Daily Cougar covering their heads. The wiser students are always prepared. They carry an umbrella for those surprising "y hale/ the/ loeatAesf. \Dt doe^ nod/ ovi cold enauaA. ^t's- too humid umen US' hot. * • Piet Lewis will appear out of no where and slap students in the face. The weather in Houston also causes havoc with traffic. UH is a commuter school, and when there's a rainstorm, the traffic is intolerable. It becomes a real pain when students are stuck in traffic because of the rain and have only five minutes to get to their class. There's probably nothing better than walking into a class of 300 and everyone turns rainy days and dress in to see you soaking wet layers for when it's freez- and twenty minutes late. ing in the morning but scorching in the afternoon. Another frustrating part about the weather in Houston is the unpredictable wind. Sometimes the most surprising gusts of wind Well, it's all part of the college experience, especially when attending the University of Houston. Just remember the boy scout motto and "Always be prepared." • by Linda Canales 36 • STUDEnT LiFE WEATHER 37
