Transcript Looking Forward Sf>tcM Event (f^e Contars Something to SlntiaMte Although not many people know about it outside of the university, the University of Houston enjoys a strong history of tradition. These traditions and special events serve as the backbone of student life at the university. Every year, Cougars past and present flock to huge events such as Frontier Fiesta, Homecoming week and Graduation. Other popular traditions include Pushball, Gong Show, Anchor Splash, Fight Night and many other events and competitions. i This year, the university StUdBlltS dfid /introduced several new events alumni alike enjoy t01th!.lon? **!* °/ol* st*ples iincludmgthe Dude where s my the many Special /Duck" competition in the leventS planned Jby/University Center, which was a khe University andH^ event for students itS Organizations. I In the spring, students, faculty land staff participated in the first annual Walk in the Dark, which was a nighttime walk across campus in order to identify poorly lit areas, places that needed better security or lacked safety precautions. Another event introduced this year was the Cougar Idol competition, which was similar to the tv show, "American Idol." Students competed against one another for the title of Cougar Idol, a 17 day European rail pass, and a contract for a demo tape recording. The winner this year was freshman biophysics major Allison Bell. Homecoming week serves as a build-up to the Homecoming game on Saturday.
