Transcript society of petroleum engineers of aime The University of Houston Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers was formally organized in 1952. The SPE of AIME has grown to be one of the largest and most active engineering societies on the campus. The object of the society is to promote among its members an increased knowledge of the petroleum industry and to instill a professional status in the industry. An effort is made to expose student members to knowledge not offered in the classrooms. Weekly meetings, with special meetings on the third Friday of each month, are held. The current school year was concluded with a series of informative lectures given by prominent men from the industry. Field trips were taken to offshore drilling rigs and manufacturers' plants. All petroleum engineering or petroleum geology students in good standing are eligible for membership. Professor C. V. Kirkpatrick is the faculty advisor. First IS^JSSiJc.
