Transcript Swear in TO SERVE Lisa Chmiola Right hands raised, the top three Students' Association executives took their oaths of office with giggles at the SA Inaugural Dinner April 2. As President Natalie Merritt, Vice President Jon Erickson and Student Regent Tom Cassidy promised to "faithfully execute the duties and responsibilities entrusted to me by virtue of my office!' they added a few laughs to the scripted oath. Keynote Speaker University of Houston System Chancellor/UH President Arthur Smith also joined in on the antics by saying, "I told Natalie (Merritt) I could see how she got elected (as SA president) — she kissed everybody who came through the (receiving) line!' He added he wanted to follow her around campus to see if she kisses everyone she meets. Smith said he looked forward to the experience of working with the new SA administration. "We're here, we're getting settled in . . . we have a lot to learn!' Smith said. The winning Campus Card design, selected by student voters in the March 5 and 6 elections, was unveiled. Designer Donovan Brown, a junior majoring in biology, received an oversized replica of the $1,000 scholarship check he earned by winning the contest. Several other awards were also presented — Senator of the Year to Engineering Sen. April Erickson, Presidential Award of Excellence to outgoing Speaker of the Senate Jon Erickson and Outstanding Leadership Award to former Interfraternity Council President Mike Sachs. The evening concluded with Merritts first presidential address, in which she said SA must work on ties with Smiths administration and students. "As members of the 34th Administration, we need to take the initiative to enter and conquer new ground!' she said. "Remember who your boss is. Each and everyone of us ... is accountable to the students of UH!' "As members of the 34th Administration, we need to take the initiative to enter and conquer new ground."
