Transcript Marc TO THE SPIRIT Don LeGrand (Continued from page 188) Three days before classes started, members met to refresh their marching skill and show incoming freshmen and transfer students marching techniques the Cougar Band uses. They also received most of their music and drill routines at that time. "I love band. When I joined ... I automatically had all these friends!' Lowry said. The band did not perform alone on the field - the Cougar Dolls dance routines at games to music played by the band. Off the field, the band participated in community events, such as Walk-a-thons, to represent UH. There were also a group of individuals in the band that formed Cougar Pride as a big brother/sister program that other band members could look up to. The band also performed at events other than football games. During the basketball season, Cougar Brass members provided music at home games. Woodwind ensembles hosted concerts. Two national service fraternities were associated with the Dana. Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma were honorary service organizations dedicated to aiding bands. "When I joined (band)... I automatically had all these friends." Band Member Melissa Lowry Organizations The trumpet section of the band plays a select piece. The band show often showcased its various sections. photo by: Conrad Turner Cougar Band
