As the guys applied make-up and padded bras, the women began suiting up for a serious physical challenge. The annual event is a tradition that attracts ladies from both Moody Towers and the Quad to play on teams against each other in a fast-paced, 30 minute flag football game. Freshman hotel and restaurant managment major Donovon DePriest said he convinced several of his friends from the dorms to serve as cheerleaders. The guys performed several routines, much to the delight of the crowd. Shortly after signs were posted announcing the game, freshman University Studies student Erica Burr said she was ready to play. "My friends and I thought (playing) would be fun, and (that it would be) very interesting to see guys in cheerleader uniforms," Burr said. "However, the best part of the game was the adrenaline every one had that day!' The teams practiced twice a week for over a month before game day, and it all paid off when the big moment arrived. The event was held in the Athletic/Alumni Center, where the spectators watched a fairly new tradition take shape. In the last 10 years of Beauty Bowl, the Quad team consistently defeated the Towers team. The 1996 game changed that — the Towers defeated the Quad, 24-16. "We broke the winning streak for the Quad!' Burr said. "It was amazing to be a woman running a football into the end zone!' According to organizers, the game was a major success, adding that they expect an even larger turnout next year due to the excitement the teams brought to it this year. "This is what college is all about, not just studying hard and making good grades, but having fun!' said freshman biology major Olivia Uribe. "I look forward to playing in Beauty Bowl next year."
