In addition to weekly halftime performances, the band also played in the stands to pump up the crowd. Photo by: Edmond Vahedi Oenior quarterback Chuck Clements leads the Cougars to the field from the locker tent. Clements and the other seniors made their last Homecoming memorable with a victory over southern mississippi. Photo by: Edmond Vahedi The game became closer and closer with each event. Thursday night brought the exhibition basketball game and the introduction of the Homecoming Court. On a chilly Friday night, the Yell Like Hell contest and bonfire kept the students warm. The bonfire included a live band and sponsorship from 93 Q Country radio station. Game day brought traditional tailgating. Alumni, campus organizations and Greeks set up their party headquarters before the game. Food, drinks and people were the ingredients of anticipation that surrounded Robertson Stadium before kickoff. The week of events was over and it was time for the long-awaited battle. The odds were against the Cougars from the start, but a little adversity hadn't stopped the team before. While the Cougars were picked to finish last in Conference USA, the victory over Southern Mississippi pushed the team towards a conference championship. "Much to the nation's chagrin, we had an excellent season," said James Mashburn, senior nutrition major. Nothing could prepare fans for what they would witness that night — a battle that left UH with a tremendous victory.
