Transcript Seventies come back into style Fabulous Flashback Lana Khawaja Disco balls and flashy clothes. Sounds like a lifetime ago, right? Wrong. Butterfly collars and clogs were back at the University of Houston. One way to find retro fashions was to dig through parents' old clothes. "I threw away a lot of my old clothes years ago, and I regret that now. My daughters are buying clothes from the mall that look like stuff I wore," said sophomore English major Liz Garcia. When students opened up a magazine they found page after page of tall, waif models with flared out pants and tight tank tops. Men were also wearing slightly tighter pants that flared out, shiny polyester shirts with butterfly collars and hip-length jackets. If spending big bucks at a department store was not an option, then thrift stores were also a choice to shop for '70s threads. "I love to go thrifting. You never know what you can find if you actually take time to dig through the racks," said junior architecture major Jessica Clark. Thrift stores were infamous for having great vintage wear at cheap prices. "I bought this black wool jacket for $4 at a thrift store," Clark said, proudly showing off her bargain find. "I've seen jackets like this at a department store on sale for $70." But the '70s flashback didn't stop there. Remember that smoky blue eye shadow that was the butt of many jokes a few years ago? Well, it was back and was hot. Women were wearing a rainbow assortment of eye shadows and lipsticks to match colored fingernail polish. Shimmer eye shadow and blush were also a big hit, especially with the younger generation. The style of footwear had also changed dramatically from a few years before. Clogs, mules and thick-heeled shoes were popular. Sling back shoes and thin, spiked heels were also making a comeback. Whatever a UH student's style is, many run with it and make the most out of a fashion wardrobe. "I threw away a lot of my old clothes years ago, and I regret that now. My daughters are buying clothes from the mall that looks like stuff I wore," Liz Garcia, sophmore 190 March
