Transcript Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Ride Them Cowboy Jesse Lauritz Continued from pg. 148 each exhibitor is guaranteed an excellent price well above market value for his or her animal. The Junior Market and School Art auctions always break previous year's records. This year they brought in over $5.5 million, a 19 percent increase over last year. There were records in both Grand and Reserve Grand Champions of beef, swine, turkeys and pens of broilers. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a charitable organization. The mission of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is to make maximum use of facilities, volunteer effort, staff and financial resources to benefit youth, to support educational programs and institutions, to expand agricultural horizions and to perserve and honor pioneer heritages and cultures while establishing the show as an internationally recognized attraction providing quality, afforable and entertaining learing experiences to spectators and to the general public. It also is committed to benefitting youth and supporting education throughout the state. This year, the show exceeded 50 million in scholarships, graduate assistantship, endowment and grant contributions since it presented its first scholarship since 1957.
