Transcript Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Ride Them Cowboy It's that time of the year again. Every February the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the world's largest rodeo, comes to the Astrodome. The Houston Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, ensuring that this event is produced professionally and safely. The top cowboys and cowgirls come to compete for huge prize money. Thousands of people will participate in the events and neighbors, friends and competitors will forget their differences and cheer their favorite hero on. Most downtown streets will be closed to cars, trucks and buses, and the crowded sidewalks filled with spectators pushing to become involved in the city's most popular celebration. Josh Chen,a biology major says, "the rodeo is what puts Houston on the map. Everyone knows that Houston is associated with the Rodeo." So, for the next two weeks the Astrohall complex is transformed into a modern-day farm, where more than one million show visitors walk through a gaint "barn" and see every type of livestock—from beef cattle and sheep to breeding poultry and rabbits. About 32,000 entries will be part of the competition, all vying for top titles, ribbons, and i rodeo is what puts Houston on the map. Everyone knows that Houston is associated with the Rodeo," Josh Chen trophies in the show ring. Professional breeders and ranchers headline the first week, competing for top dollars and global recognition in the livestock industry. Then the spotlight turns to the junior exhibitors during the second week, where Texas 4-H and FFA members line the arenas with their livestock projects. The pinnacle of the junior livestock competition is the junior market auction program, where buyers pay phenomenal prices Cowboys get their gear prepared to saddle up a bull and ride.
