Transcript clowning around DEMETRIA CANTU Chi Omega sisters dance and "Rap in the 90s", as they perform at the annual Greek Week festivities. Members not only have fun, but gather to raise money for those in need. Photo courtesy of Chi Omega The faces of the children at the Center for the Retarded lit up as Chi Omega sorority members gathered in October for a carnival to lift spirits. Each year, Chi Omega sponsors the Chi-O Carnival, which this year raised over $400 for the center to help cover daily maintenance costs. "I love doing it because we involve the children. It's a hands-on experience for them, and they're a part of it," said senior marketing major and President of Chi Omega Annette Garcia. The Chi-O Carnival included activities such as ring toss, basketball shooting contests and face painting. Unlike most carnivals, each participant leaves with a prize. Along with organizing the Chi-O Carnival, the 43 Chi Omega members also participate in a Read Aloud program, designed to help get children interested in reading. The members go to different elementary schools and to Texas Children's Hospital and read the children's story of choice aloud. "It's not only a lot of fun, but heartwarming to read to the children, especially those who are sick," said Chi Omega treasurer Amy Wallis, a junior graphics communications major. Additionally, Chi Omega members volunteer their time to help the Angels of Light, located at Second Baptist Church onWoodway andVoss Rd. in Houston. The Angels of Light is an organization that obtains necessities such as toiletries, toys, food and clothing for families who are less fortunate. "I love doing it because we involve the children."
