Transcript Members of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Delta Sigma Phi battle it out in the mud for Delta Upsilon's 5th annual Push Ball contest. Delta Sigma Phi won first place and helped to raise over $2,000 for Kid Care. Photo By Edmond Vahedi mud Muddy clothes, filthy faces, fun and raising money were all a part of Delta Upsilon's fifth annual Push Ball contest Sept. 2 7. Delta Upsilon sponsored the University of Houston tradition and with the help of 14 other Greek organizations, raised over $2,000 for Kid Care, a meals-on-wheels program in the Houston Independent School District which prepared after-school snacks and meals for hundreds of children whose families could not afford them. "It's great to see the money go to a worthwhile cause. The children don't have to worry where their next meal will come from," * | rip children dOlVt haVe tO said Delta Upsilon member and junior speech communications major Jeffrey Arcidiacono. "Now they have more time to study, which hopefully will cut back on crime." Preparing for the event took hard work on behalf of Delta Upsilon. Members spent several days prior to the contest preparing the 75- by 35-yard field in a two-foot deep mud pit. "The guys rented a tractor, racked, hosed the field down, plowed it again and watered it down some more," said Arcidiacono. The contest took skill, strategy and determination in order to win. The 19 teams paired off and battled through the knee-deep soil to get the huge rubber ball past their opponent's boundary line. "You're in a no-win situation. The contest is so exhausting because the other team is pushing just as hard as you are," said Phi Mu sorority member and senior kinesiology major Cindy Abarca. The Push Ball contest was an excuse to get down and dirty, but it was for a good worry where their next meal will come from," Jeffrey Arcidiacono. cause. September Muddy Ducks
