Transcript A New Orleans tradition first brought to Galveston in 1867, Mardi Gras continued to draw hundreds of thousands of revelers each year. The 12-day event was celebrated with parades, masked balls, art exhibits, music, theatre performances, sporting events, and plenty of drinking. The celebration is not in keeping with its religious origins, though, growing to be the area's biggest party time of the year. spending the evening at City Streets, one of Houston's many smoke-filled clubs, UH Law students dance to the ever popular 'YMCA' by the Village People. A new local trend among night clubs was to begin offering areas that appeal to each music genre, combining a pop club in the same building as a country dance hall. Entertainment • 3 9
