Transcript The Cougars traveled to Huntsville for their next one and beat the Sam Houston Bearkats, traditional rival, 58-52, on January 5. At the half, only two points separated the teams, but the Cougars forged ahead in the fourth quarter to win. Sharpshooter Hendrix fired in 18 points to lead the scorers and smooth-playing Richardson was close behind with 16. Opening conference play in San Antonio, the UH clipped the Trinity Tigers, 67-62 on January 7. Behind 38-39 at the half, the Cougars surged ahead in the late third quarter and were never headed. The Trinity team hurt its chances by committing 26 fouls, 16 of which the UH cashed in on. Berg and Rodriguez led Cougar scorers with 17 and 15 points, respectively. Herb Richardson's smooth floor play was tops for the championship-minded Cougars. Conference game number two, played at High School field house, gave the UH its second consecutive GCC win, this time over the hapless Hardin College Indians, 63-38. This game, played on January 11, was strictly no contest. From the opening minutes, everybody knew who was going to win; it was just a matter of how high the score would be. Twelve Cougars got into the fray, and much young talent, especially Roy Borroughs and Bunky Bradford, was seen. Rodriguez led scorers with 14. followed by Reichle with 12. Pontikes tries a one-hander in the conference tilt between the Cougars and the North Texas State Eagles here. The Red and White took the game from the Dentonites, 65-55. HERB RICHARDSON Guard 315
