Transcript Hendrix outjumps a Pepperdine player in the last half rally of UH that dumped the California school, 47-46. Richardson (35) comes up fast to help his team mate. COUGAR CAGERS BREAK EVEN IN FOUR TILTS Coach Alden Pasche's basketball team, preseason favorites to win the first trophy in the young Gulf Coast conference, started play in fine form by spanking the visiting Hardin-Simmons Cowboys, 48-36. The game was rated as a toss-up by pregame dope- sters, and indeed, at the half it was deadlocked. But the Red and White squad, sparked by Veterans Lloyd Hendrix and Dick Berg, and aided by Center Dave Rodriguez, won going away. A favored Loyola team was next to fall to the Cougars. In the High School field house, the underdog UH team, paced again by Hendrix with some strong support from Marvin Reichle and Herb Richardson, soundly whipped the New Orleans five by a score of 57-33. It was two in a row for the Cougars. But the UH string was to be snapped abruptly. On an extended tour of the Midwest, the Cougars met Bradley and fell with a thump by the lopsided score of 73-57. The walloping was hardly in the "disgrace" class, however. Bradley was later to be voted Number One in National Associated Press pollings by an overwhelming margin. In the second game of their Midwestern tour, the UH met Loras college of Dubuque, Iowa and found the only bright spot in an otherwise disastrous series. The Red and White, again with Hendrix, Richardson, Berg, and Reichle sparkling, defeated the Iowans, 65-51. SAM ALESSANDRA Manager 312 L. D. HENDRIX All-Conference Forward
