Transcript EX-STUDENTS ASSOCIATION ALL SMILES were the celebrites at the Ex-Students Second Annual Gridiron Dinner. Left to Right are Corbin J. Robertson, banquet chairman, Head Football Coach Clyde V. Lee, Claud Kincannon, great Waco passing star; James Garner, Amarillo end, who won the Exes trophy for having been chosen Texas' outstanding high school football star for 1948, Tom Stolhandske, Baytown's star back; and Tom Menefee, president of the Ex-Students Association. ACTIVITIES An expanding program of activity on the part of the Ex-Students Association has made the 1948 season of the Exes one that might well grace the history of any alumni organization. The year 1948 started out with an outstanding Homecoming Day celebration in November as well as one of the best dances of the year. The 1948 football banquet, planned by Ex-Students, featured Frank Leahy of Notre Dame as its speaker, while the second gridiron dinner, held in January, 1949, was another outstanding sports in "Ex" history. In the 1949 banquet, presentation of awards for outstanding sports achievements was made to Cougar football players. Membership of the Ex-Students has jumped from 1,500 to 3,000 active members. The year has seen the rapid growth and development of the Extra, Ex-Student newspaper, including a record breaking slick paper magazine issued for the 1948 Homecoming. Mrs. H. R. Cullen presents the Exes Homecoming Queen, Dolores Becker, to football fans during half-time ceremonies. Homecoming Chairman Jack Valenti is pictured back of Mrs. Cullen. The 80-foot Homecoming bonfire built by the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity eiimtfj an all-time pep rally record when over . students and Exes turned out to witness big blaze.
