Transcript CATS WIN THREE, DROP FINALE Coming back strong, the Cougar cagers almost jumped back into the thick of a four- way fight Tor first place. The Red and White returned from a disasterous road trip to take the measure of the Trinity Tigers, 72-52. Berg and Hendrix led the scoring with 23 and 22 points respectively. In a free-for-all tilt against the Southwest Texas Bobcats, Louis Brown led the Cougars to another victory as the Red and White edged out San Marcos, 53-52. With seconds remaining, the game was knotted at 52-52. Brown, playing his last game for the Cougars, and the Bobcats' Jimmy Littleton had a double penalty called on them. Littleton missed his shot. Brown made his. Back on the road for their last two games, the Cougars again met Southwest Texas and, this time, came out on top, 71 -68, in an overtime tilt. With an outside chance to throw the Lone Star conference championship into a deadlock, the Cougars faltered before last- place Trinity. The Tigers won the game, 57-52. Landing in a tie with Sam Houston for third place standing in the conference, the Cougars wound up with a .500 average for the entire season. High scorers — Hendrix, Berg, Luton, Ray, and Brown teamed with a valuable defense composed of Reichle, Pontikes, and Mc- Phail were the main factors in the Cougar's fourth, and last, season of Lone Star Conference play. LONG SHOTS like the one above by L. D. Hendrix helped the Cougars whip the Trinity Tigers, 72-52. The valiant Tigers, led by little Pete Murphy, were completely outclassed by the Red and White. SURROUNDED BY COUGARS, a Trinity Tiger tries to get his bearings during the Cougars' 72-52 rout. In San Antonio, the Tigers repayed !he compliment by taking the Red and White, 57-52.
