Transcript 4 HARD TACKLING by Johnny O'Hara (21) in bringing down Texas A.&l.'s quarterback, Dan Wright (44), helped the Cougars beat the Javelinas. Buck Miller (60) tries to help bring the Kingsville star down. JACK GWIN Back Leemen Drop Javelinas In Opener HOUSTON, Sept. 18.—Scoring twice in the third quarter, the Cougars started the 1948 grid season off with a 14-0 win over the Texas A.&I. Javelinas of Kingsville. A record crowd of more than 8000 saw Coach Clyde Lee make good on his first appearance as little Max Clark broke loose for two touchdown jaunts of 70 and 23 yards. After a tightly-played first half in which both teams threatened several times, Clark took a punt from the toe of the Porkers' Dan Wright, fumbled it momentarily, and then went 70 yards to paydirt. Heads-up down field blocking highlighted by August Peterson paved the way for the score. Cougar quarterback Alan Neveux converted to make the score 7-0 for the Red and White team. On another drive into Javelina territory shortly afterwards, Clark took a hand-off from Boyd Tingle and went off-tackle for 23 yards to the double stripe for the second TD of the game. Neveux converted to make the final score 14-0, the Cougars on top.
