Transcript PAST CHAIRMEN OF FRONTIER FIESTA Joe Potter Fiesta Chairman 1940 It's called "The Greatest College Show on Earth," and the University of Houston's Frontier Fiesta lives up to this description. — To the past chairman of Frontier Fiesta (and through them to the students and ex-students who have helped make Frontier Fiesta great) the Houstonian is dedicated:—To Joe Potter, who was foreman of the first Fiesta in 1940,—To Joe Koppel, who ran the ole corral in 1941 and who later died in the service of his country;—To Johnny Goyen, who rode herd on the festivities when the show was revived in 1947 after its discontinuance during war years;—To Bill Sparr, who wore the big spurs in 1948;—And finally, to Harrey Scott, who held the reins during the 1949 version of Frontier Fiesta.—Through their leadership and with the help of University students, past and present, Frontier Fiesta has become a tradition not only on the campus but in Houston. A show designed to recapture the spirit of the Old West, it glorifies those principles of Frontier character which have made America great. —In dedicating this book to the chairmen of Frontier Fiesta, we are also paying tribute to this pioneer spirit and to the traditional frontier virtues. Thus the 1949 book follows the motiff of The Old West—the Great American Frontier.
