Transcript STAFF ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The year 1949 has been a great one for the University of Houston. The Ezekiel W. Cullen building, our first permanent building to be constructed since before the war and one of the finest college buildings in the Id, is nearing completion. Annoucement has also come of the gift of a $1,500,000 library by the M. D. Anderson Foundation. Plans for three other buildings will be complete this June—an Engineering Building, a Junior College Building, and a Physical Education Building and Field House. Our athletic program is expanding rapidly on all fronts, and Frontier Fiesta, the biggest all-student participation event of the University, has a permanent site. We have the largest graduating class in the history of our alma mater this year. Student enrollment of over 9000 on the campus this spring has broken all previous records. It is difficult for a yearbook to portray the full scope of such rapid growth. However, we believe that graduating seniors and others will cherish and treasure the record of departments, activities, personalities, and events depicted in this 1949 Houstonian. Much credit for any success that the 1949 yearbook may have goes to Mr. Robert B. Reed of Newsfoto Publishing Company for his invaluable assistance; to the University of Houston photography department for being on call at almost any hour of the day or night; to the Administration for being most kind and considerate in helping us with numerous problems; to Mr. Phil Monroe, chief animator for Warner Brothers Studio, for the cover design; and to the many students outside the staff who helped us publish the 1949 Houstonian by this new process of deep etch lithography. Here it is—we hope you like it. The 1949 Houstonian Staff N. S. Patterson, Sponsor Harry Rogers, Editor Welcome Wilson, Bus. Mgr.
