Transcript FAR LEFT: Doug Bernhardt addresses students at an anti-war rally in Hermann Park several weeks before the UC fight. LEFT: A crowd on the UC steps follows "Guerrilla Theater" script. ABOVE LEFT: SDS members lead over 200 students toward Student Life Building. SDS, conservatives tangle in Center melee. Bernhardt beaten, banned from campus. SDS had an active fall on the UH campus. In various rallies SDS protested U.S. involvement in Vietnam and the growing power of its military-industrial complex, specifically, the appearance of Army and CIA recruiters at UH. LEFT: Non-student leader Doug Bernhardt is taken into protective custody after being beat up in the UC by jeering students. RIGHT: A week later, SDS members perform "Guerilla Theater" on the steps of the UC. Midway through the performance, when it appeared a riot was in the making, SDS was ordered to leave. From there the group proceeded to the Student Life Building and held a second rally. The "Gue- rilla Theater" and rally were aimed at CIA recruiters. 73
