Transcript Student Life The University of Houston is the second most ethnically diverse major research university in the United States. Students come to UH from more than 137 nations from across the U.S. Our student body comprises more than 36,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Each year, the university celebrates Frontier Fiesta. Dating back to 1940, this student-run event features free live concerts, variety shows by student organizations, carnival booths, multicultural performances, and a world-class BBQ cook-off. Homecoming is an important event for the students as well. With events being held for a week, Homecoming gives students the adventure of showing some school spirit during the week as well as getting pumped for the big game on Saturday. The UH Frontiersmen display the Texas flag and the University of Houston flag at football games. They were established in 1948 to promote Cougar sprit. The Frontiersmen's primary purpose is to support UH in any and all endeavors. Their three main areas of concentration are athletics, school spirit and Frontier Fiesta. In 1996 the Frontiersmen displayed the Texas Flag along side the University of Houston Flag at football games as part of our respect and obligation to represent the State of Texas as the only member from Texas in Conference USA. With a theme of "Old Traditions - New Beginnings," homecoming is a prideful event making a weeks worth of fun for students to cherish. Student Life 17
