Transcript Houston Breezes into NCAA's — then advances to midwest finals Houston played, what was, at best, an inconsistent game against a tired TCU team but pulled the game out 62-59 when senior Larry Micheaux sank two free throws. Houston made only 8 of 22 free throws. Akeem Olajuwon kept UH in the game by sinking 9 of 11 field goals. Had TCU not been playing their fourth game in six days and if they hadn't finished playing their OT game with Arkansas as late as they did the night before one shudders for the still ailing Coogs. Houston opened their NCAA title hunt in the Houston Summit against Lefty Drisell's Maryland squad. The Terps set a record for exercises in futility by holding the ball for 3:36 and throwing 94 passes in that span while trailing by three points. UH had the last laugh on this unpleasant bunch as they rolled to a 60-50 victory. Phi Slama Jama took to the road and went to Kansas City to play in the semifinals of the midwest regional. Akeem Olajuwon continued to impress and improve, scoring 21 points, (on 10-14 from the field) grabbing 6 rebounds and blocking 5 shots. Larry Micheaux however, turned in the most stunning performance, holding Memphis State's Kieth Lee to just four second half points despite giving up a two inch height advantage. Pictured, Left to Right: Akeem Olajuwon politely explains that no one is allowed to shoot over him. Meanwhile Clyde Drexler shoots over them. Guy Lewis explains why he is a "Pepper." Michael Young flies in the corner and finally Larry Micheaux shows off the fraternity's trademark. All photos on pages 196-197 by Nick Clements. 198
