Wherever wheels turn, power is developed or transmitted, goods are manufactured, people or goods are transported, the Mechanical Engineers have a vital interest, for theirs are the minds which conceive and execute new developments in these areas. The University of Houston Student Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, chartered in March, 1958, is composed of students who are eager to advance themselves in their chosen profession through technical upgrading, increased activity in community affairs, and a greater awareness of social responsibility. The UH-ASME ratified affiliation with the UHSE, participated in Cougar Christmasland, and entered two technical papers in the UHSE competition, taking third place. OFFICERS: Jim Harmon, fall chairman; Donald Imler, fall vice-chairman; J. L. Schweppe, sponsor; Kenneth Fischer, spring chairman; K. S. Carmichael, spring vice-chairman; and Jim Sternenberg, secretary-treasurer. 394
