Transcript Service Cougar Guard Cougar Guard, made up of volunteers from Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, has as its sole purpose the care of the University's cougar mascot, Shasta. Organized in 1947 when Shasta was purchased, the Cougar Guard members transport Shasta to and from all University home football games and pep rallies, occasionally to out-of-town games, and show her at school functions such as Frontier Fiesta. IffVW f 1 *x!L Shasta, the mother of three, resides at the Hermann Park Zoo. Cougar Guard Captain Jack Wil-"n pauses after a rough workout with Shasta. COUGAR GUARD: Jerry Arnold, Gordon Murray, Preston Ivens, Jack Wilson, and Richard Lassetter comprise the service group. It's not unusual to see Richard, Jack, and Gordon at the zoo on a Sunday afternoon putting Shasta through her paces. 321
