Transcript Afylta, Kappa Afyka, A friend in need One in three women will report being raped in America within their lifetime, but experts say these statistics are not representative of rape victims because a large num- ber or rapes go unreported. Four UH students believe they can make a difference. AKA members Nichol Bradford, Angelica Francis, Ronique Gordon and Whitney Houston completed a Houston Area Women's Center rape counseling course that will allow them to work on rape crisis hotlines. The program consists of 40 hours of training in which the women will sit in on hotline sessions and view certified counselors helping rape victims. Bradford, a sophomore in business, said the period directly after trie rape is the most crucial. It is imperative that victims go directly to the hospital or police, Bradford said. 'Taking a shower destroys 90 Percent of the evidence/' Bradford said, [ouston, a junior psychology major entered the program out of curiosity, but eventually felt like she wanted to be a part of it. "It really makes me feel good to know that I can help somebody," Houston said.-Jason Luther City councilperson Sheila Jacson holds a forum sponsored by AKA on the role of blacks in politics.
