Transcript Why Do Students Get ktotoed VA "Fxeep within the bowels L^of the UC Underground, there lurks a powerful force for the advancement of campus life: the Student Program Board. Funded by student service fees and fueled by the rampant energies of student volunteers, SPB's nine standing committees are constantly at work, producing program after fantastic program for the benefit of the students. But who are these creatures called "SPBers," who sacrifice their time and effort-but hopefully not their G.P.A.'s selfess- lyin order to entertain, educate and excite the student body? What strange urge drives them to dedicate themselves to the noble causes of SPB? ''Initially I got involved in doing free concerts, but I stayed involved because of all the grea people I met," Tom Hoang said. Service to the university was also important to some SPB members. "People want to bring new and innovative things to campus, " said Michelle Cruz. Personal development was another reason for SPB involvement. Ti Akindele said that "SPB keeps my eyes open. It's got a lot of valuable experiences." "People do SPB so they can have unusual conversations. I'm in here all the time. I know," observes Freya Cotton. "I think people join SPB to see how the eccentric side lives, you know what I mean?" -Lee Grooms 222 ^^P^ Organizations Xhe Rolling Stone photogra- exhibit was one of the many events spon- sered by SPB.
