Scott Chafin University Counsel Holiday Tour Schilt's home featured The home of Chancellor Alexander Schilt was featured in a fund- raising tour of five of Houston's most luxurious residences. Schilt's residence was decorated and open to the public as part of the biennial Kappa Christmas Pilgramage of homes sponsered by the Houston Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Schilt lives in the former resdience of Houston philanthropists Gus and Lyndal Worthan, which was donated to the UH System in 1980 by the Wortham Foundation. This was the first year the historic Wortham home, designed and built in 1927, has been included in the tour, said Kappa Pilgrimage spokeswoman Carol Brejot. The mansion was used for business and entertainment of foreign dignitaries, includeing a dinner for finance minister hosted by U.S. Tresurer Nicholos Brady during the economic summit held in the Summer of 1990. This was one of the beautiful dec- orated rooms in Schlit's home.Photo by Tony Bullard. Schilt moved into the Wortham residence, located at 1505 South Blvd., in October after he was elected chancellor by the UH Board of Regents. The weekend of the open house, Schilt left for Japan to attend the Coca- Cola Bowl between UH and Arizona State, said UH-System spokeswoman Becky Barefoot. She said his trip will also be extended to other major cities in the Far East. Proceeds raised by the association benefitted Texas Children's Hospital, Houston School for the Deaf, Casa de Esper- anza de los Ninos and Communities in Schools. The 1988 pilgramage raised more than $130,000 for these charities and the association expected to raise $150,000 this year, Brejot said. The Kappa Pilgrimage began in 1931 and has grown into a major fun- draising event involving over 500 volunteers from the alumnae association, Brejot said. -Christopher Kimble John Scales Vice Chancellor Institutional Advancement &.
