Photo by Donatello Pitts. J^t is that time of year that gives us a warm feeling inside. It brings friends and families closer together in this time of celebration. It brings people, both young and old, to give and receive gifts of thought and love. It reminds us to remember people who will not be with us at the special time of year. Yes, it is that joyful time of year that brings holiday cheer, Christmas. Students found themselves daydreaming in class about travelling home for the holidays or just about the month-long vacation. After Finals, students packed their belongings and journeyed home to spend the season with family and friends. But for those luckily ones, who found themselves spending the holidays here with family, they could take a get-a-away and venture to Galveston for the annual Dickens on the Strand. This age old celebration features characters from Charles Dickens tales. The parade, which runs across the Strand, lasts approximately half an hour. The parade honored some of Dickens' characters, David Cop- perfield, Oliver Twist, Scrooge, Marley, and many others. Also, making an appearance at the festivities were the famous Clysdale's horses. Dickens on the Strand entertains both young and old alike. The most popular person; however, is the man who makes Christmas what it is today. And that man is Santa Claus This event draws a huge crowd each year to the Galveston area. So next year, plan ahead and see storybook characters in action at Dickens on the Strand. -Kristyn Roberts Jb 52 ~^-f^ Student Lift Dickens on the Strand 53
