Transcript Public Relations Student Society of America Advertising Club RSSA was an organization set up to help students prepare for careers in the Public Relations field. PRSSA is a division of the professional group, PRSA. PRSA, is the Public Relations Society of America. PRSA promotes professionalism in the field of Public Relations. Featured speakers who were currently working in the field of Public Relations were invited to address members at monthly meetings. In addi tion, PRSSA offered students various opportunities to practice their Pub- lic Relations skills. Students had links with PRSA, as well. Official PRSSA members who were graduating were eligible for six months of free resume referral services with PRSA. PRSSA students could also attend the monthly PRSA luncheons for a small fee. PRSSA had an annual "Career Day" every spring. At "Career Day" members interviewed for internships and met potential employers for entry-level positions. "PRSSA is a great way to figure out what you want to do and it gives you a chance to practice your writing skills before you land a job," said Lisa Gochman. -Robin Schobelock j INITIATION...PRSSA President Erin Balch initiates new members of the organization. "The Ad Club enters a national contest every year sponsored by the American Advertising Federation, where each school prepares and produces a major campaign for a company," said Ad Club President, Diane Bates, "Last year it was Visa." The Ad Club placed 3rd out of 21 schools in the contest, nicknamed "the college world series of advertising." To take part in the contest students had to be an official member of the ad club and be enrolled in the advertising cam paigns class. The campaigns class is an upper level journalism class which was created just to give the students taking part in the contest a specified time to meet and scholastic credit for all their hard work. In the 1992- 93 school year, the contest focused on General Motors' new car line, Saturn. AdClub members took part in every aspect of the campaign, from research and focus groups to design and presentation. -Wendy Cockcroft AD CLUB...Front row; Elisa Contreras, Wendy Cockcroft, Monique Tucker and Diane Bates.
