Transcript Curing Those Add/Drop Blues It was thai lime of year again. The? days got shorter as the lines got longer at the add and drop tables. "Ant ici pate t hat classes listed as closed on your schedule are still (dosed, so make sure to have alternal ives," Mario Lucchesi, the director of registration and academics records, said. Lucchesi said this was good advice to any student attempting to go through UH's tedious add and drop procedure. "Another way to cut down wait time is to come at the time posted in the class schedule," he said. Computers were used at priority add and drop in summer, hut regular add and drop was the same as in previous years. Students had to stand in line at tables and wait to be added to or dropped from classes by faculty members. About 8,000 of the 18,000 students who went through priority registration went through priority add drop. About 15,000 were expected to go through A I add and drop, thousands ol slu- dents waited in the never ending line to gel through the door. Students attended add and drop a< ( ord tag to their classification and student identification number. Houstonian Photo. I he regu lar add and drop procedures. "II is important for students to know that they can conn* anytime a It er t hei r sohed u led time on the same day/' Lucchesi said. There' was also a I ime set aside at I he end ol I he week for everyone. The I>11 dget contrainls had not helped to make the procedure easier. The add and drop procedure; would be minimized if the budget contraints were lessened," Lucchesi said. "No one would need to go because their would be plenty of class time available." Fortunately, phone registration was on the way, which would include the add and drop procedure. "We're; preparing tin; final bid documents now and we hope; to have phone regist rat i on implemented by tin; 1 994 spring semester," said Sharon Richardson, the; associate vice president for aeadem ic management. Richardson said the $250,000 to 400,000 to be spent on the phone regist rat ion would be taken out of t he existing budget and would not affect student fees. -Jeff Balke 58 Student Life Add/Drop 59
