Transcript Texas Tech 0 Houston 6 HOWARD CLAPP End TED GILES SANFORD CARR Guard The following week the Cougars took the measure of Texas Tech, 6-0, in a game whose significance was to be better evaluated as the season went on. The Cougar score came after Tech fumbled on a hand-off and Guard Frank James covered on the Raider 23. This proved the biggest break of a game which was otherwise marked by stubborn defense on both sides. On the very next play, Shannon took the ball around left end and broke into the clear with only one Raider in position to stop him. Shannon faked him out of position and went over untouched and standing up. The next game proved a serious set-back for the Cougars, as a large and determined Tulsa team decisively outscored the Cougars 46-27. Even in amassing so top-heavy a score, the mighty Hurricanes were unable to stop the fleet Shannon or his teammate Bobby Clatterbuck. Gene made three of the four Cougar touchdowns, two on Clatterbuck's passes and one on a 23-yard scamper. The Cougars provided the biggest thrill for the Houston partisans on their last sustained drive for 80 yards with only a few minutes remaining. It was at the climax of this push that Shannon made his scoring run. Tulsa . . Houston 46 ,27 BOBBY CLATTERBUCK Back JACK CHAMBERS Center Warren Ramsey, halfback, carries the ball in the Tulsa game at Skelly Stadium on October 13. Later in the game he scored one of the four touchdowns. 61
