Transcript Cougars Split with North Texas Eagles After losing to the Eagles in Denton 71-47, the Cougars gave the North Texas cagers a basketball lesson in the Public School fieldhouse, 55-51, in as rough a basketball game as was played all season. Dick Berg and Lynn Smith played their hearts out under the basket and led scorers with 18 each. Sam Bell, North Texas high-scoring ace, led the Eagles to then victory in Denton. The tall Eagles started fast and the Cougars never could catch up. Eight minutes into the game saw the Eagles boasting a 23-8 advantage. Smith and Jesse Harper paced the Cougars with I I and 10 points respectively. East Texas Lions Trip Cougars Twice The East Texas cagers had to work hard to eke out a 47-43 win over the Red and White in Commerce. All-conference Jake Carter's 18 points proved the difference in a thrilling game. Lynn Smith was again high for the Cougars with 15. The second game between the two teams was different. The Lions were hot and could not be denied. East Texas held an 18-8 lead at one time but long range shooting by Captain Louis Brown kept the Cougars in the game and pulled them up 18-14 with six minutes left in the first half.
