Sustained cheering and energetic support of the Cougars testified to the steady work by the Pep Club. Freshman orientation, organized pep rallies, dances, parties and widespread participation in student affairs identify the Pep Club as one of the more active groups at the University. Started in the summer of 1951 for the purpose of promoting athletics and building fan support, the Pep Club remains the rallying point for Cougar supporters. 155
