Transcript The Oklahoma City Chiefs came to town and proceeded to scalp the Cougars 64-58. Although the Big Red made a game of it, they waited too long to get started—seven minutes passed before they scored a basket. Up in Austin, the Texas Longhorns mauled the Cougars 79-65. The Steers were never headed as Coach Slue Hill of Texas emptied his bench for the first time this season. Gary Shivers led all scorers with 22 points. Things were different the following night as the Pas- chemen threw a monkey wrench into the gears of the Missouri Valley Conference by stunning Oklahoma A&M 50-46. The Aggies played their usual slow, methodical game in the first half. Midway in the third period, A&M held a 34-32 edge. Then the Big Red found their scoring punch. Mosher's jump shot moved the Big Red ahead 47-46. The Cougars controlled the ball until Kittman was fouled. He counted on one shot with 20 seconds left to wrap it up for the Big Red. JIM GRIGSBY Guard SAMMY ADAMS Forward Jim Hatton led the Cougars to a victory over Texas A&M in Houston, 48-44. With a minute and a half remaining in the final period, the Cougars held a 46-40 advantage. But, Leroy Miksch and Don Binford teamed up for four and the Big Red held a scant two-point lead. With 28 seconds remaining, Bell sank two free throws to keep the Cougars' record spotless at the Coliseum. The Cougars upped their record to 5-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference and a tie for second as they soundly thrashed Wichita 75-62. Cotton, Kittman and Bell had 20, 19 and 18 points respectively. Drake University rode into town with a winning streak and rode out with it intact as they walloped the Cougars 73-64. Houston was left out in the cold by the Drake machine. The Cougars were never in the ball game after midway in the first quarter. The Cougars closed the season with a 68-48 loss to Oklahoma A&M. The loss threw the Cougars into a three-way tie for second place in the Missouri Vallev Conference. JERRY PETTIETTE Forward Kittman sinks shot through frustrated defender. Mosher hits his pet jump shot.
