Transcript The Cougars opened their season with a 67-54 victory over the Hardin Simmons Cowboys. Jack Mosher, a Junior College transfer playing his first game for the Cougars, led the scorers with 20 points. It was the accurate shooting of Mosher, Kittman and Shivers that brought the Big Red from an 18-15 second quarter deficit to a 31-27 lead at half-time. The Cougars continued to add to their lead in the third and fourth periods to account for the thirteen point margin. The Cougars visited College Station where Texas A&M played host. The Big Red, through a generous gift of forty free tosses, lost their first game. Six free throws in the last three minutes of play gave the Aggies a six- point margin, 65-59. DEAN KITTMAN Forward ELTON COTTON Center Houston led through most of the first quarter, but in the second lost ground and trailed 31-26 at half-time. In the third period they regained the lead through the efforts of Mosher, Adams, and Shivers who scored 21 points among them to give the Cougars a close 47-46 lead. In the fourth quarter it was nip-and-tuck until the Aggies cashed in on free throws to wrap it up. A&M's Leroy Miksch was high scorer for the game with 18 points. Mosher and Adams topped the Cougars with 16 and 11 each. Following the Aggie loss, the Paschemen headed north for a two-game series with Detroit University and the first conference action of the year. The Cougars took the first game in overtime, 72-69. Guard Jack Mosher provided the winning margin. He tossed in a field goal deep in the fourth period to give the Big Red 70-65 edge. Detroit got two more baskets to make it 70-69, but Houston dumped in two more points to ice the game. GARY SHIVERS Center Waltz me around again, Jerry! Pitt center grabs rebound.
