Transcript houston 28 baylor 6 HOUSTON, Nov. 15—Led by halfback Ken Pridgeon and fullback Tommy Bailes, the U of H roared to a 28-6 victory over Baylor before 33,000 astonished fans. The long lost Cougar offensive punch was found at last as they got right in line with the high-stepping Big Red defense to garner their first win over the Baptists after two defeats. Houston built up a 14-0. lead before the Bears flashed their only scoring punch midway in the second quarter. The Cougars drove 49 yards on the ground to the game's first touchdown. From the Baylor eight, on fourth down, Pridgeon followed the blocking of tackle John Carroll and dashed into the end zone. Jack Howton, who, with Sammy Hopson, was again sharp on defense, kicked the first of four placements. A blocked kick by guard Wayne Shoemaker set up the second score. Tackle Buddy Gillioz scored his second touchdown this season by falling on the loose ball in the end zone. Baylor came back when Hooper pitched out to Carpenter on the Houston four and the fleet halfback had clear sailing for the touchdown. A pass interception by George Hynes helped the Cougars to a third score. The Big Red went 32 yards in five plays, with Pridgeon banging eight yards over tackle for the score. The final Cougar touchdown came when fullback Jack Patterson, running hard and quick, went over standing up. On the offense, you could take your pick of the 12 backs who got to carry the ball, as they all made yardage. The defense was its usual self, as they halted Baylor runners in their infrequent excursions into the Cougar secondary. Shoemaker, Cougars' only Freshman, blocks his first punt. n.
