Transcript houston ....... 33 tulsa 7 HOUSTON, Sept. 11—The Big Red erased all doubt that it was the best in the Missouri Valley Conference by pounding a highly regarded Tulsa University team 33-7 before 31,- 000 homecoming fans. In the first quarter the Cougars punted after failing to pick up any yardage. The Hurricanes' Dick Kercher dropped the kick and Marvin Lackey recovered on the Tulsa 6. It took four plays from there, with Paul Carr carrying over from the 2-yard line. Howton's conversion made it 7-0. Tulsa came roaring back for their only score, as Kercher slammed over from the one. The U of H countered in the second period on a blocked punt by guard Frank James. Clatterbuck found Vic Hampel open at the Tulsa 25 and the lanky end it the rest of the way. .jj JOE 1 1 9 'j m jHH aaaK ^t ^^H - Dietrich picks up yardage behind good blocking. Ken Pridgeon's brilliant kick in the third period went out of bounds at the Hurricane one. Tulsa attempted to punt from their own end zone, but Buddy Gillioz barged in to block it and fell on the ball for the third Houston touchdown. S. M. Meeks scored later in the period on a one-yard plunge over tackle. The final Cougar count came, when Vic Hampel went high in the air to grab a 31-yard Clatterbuck aerial. S. M. Meeks led the Cougars with 56 yards on 10 carries. The defensive team again showed their worth, as they held the nation's number one offensive team to 200 yards passing and rushing.
