Transcript Theta Sigma Phi Sponsors Campus Publicity Clinic Hartman. Wilma Hayes. Jackie Maxwell. Vera Noel. Marte Pittman. Peggy Russell. Betty Sweeton. Nancie Theta Sigma Phi officers are Peggy Pittman, president; and Jackie Hayes, vice president. To unite women engaged in journalism ... to confer honor upon women who distinguish themselves in journalism or letters . . . to achieve definite standards in these fields and improve working conditions for women in them . . . and to inspire members to greater individual effort . . . these are the objectives of Theta Sigma Phi, a National Professional Honorary for Women in Journalism. Founded at the University of Washington on April 8, 1909, Theta Sig makes an annual $500 award for special journalism projects. The badge is a gold linotype matrix, displaying in a torch the letters of Theta Sigma Phi. In February, Theta Sig sponsored a Campus Publicity Clinic for student organizations. Several outstanding Houston journalists were guests, along with editors ol University publications. 142
