Transcript j. a. elkins jr. Chairman of Board of Directors of the First City National Bank, Elkins is currently vice chairman of the Board of Regents. Reappointed to a six-year term by Governor Preston Smith in October 1971, Elkins has served since his appointment by Governor John Connally in 1963. A director of Eastern Air Lines, United Gas Corporation and seven other banks in the Houston area, Elkins has also served as a director of the Houston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the Houston Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of Princeton University in 1941, he has served as a trustee for the Texas Children's Hospital and on the board of directors for the Houston Symphony Society. mrs. gus s. wortham Secretary of the Board of Regents, Mrs. Wortham was appointed by Governor John Connally in 1963. She and her husband established the Wortham Foundation in 1958. The foundation has made contributions to medical, cultural, and educational pursuits. Currently president of Girlstown U.S.A. in Whiteface, Texas, Mrs. Wortham has also been active with the Houston Speech and Hearing Center, the American Cancer Society, the Garden Club of Houston, the Houston Symphony Society, and the Houston Grand Opera Association. 240
